About Me

I'm Thiago Costa, a passionate technologist and academic currently pursuing advanced studies in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Renewable Energy at Florida Atlantic University. I'm from Brazil, and since I was very young, I have dreamed of studying abroad and becoming a global citizen.

I plan to make a lasting impact on others through my studies and the work that I conduct. My aim is to get involved in the development of more efficient and cleaner energy systems, taking advantage of resources that are still underexploited, such as hydrogen.

Environmental awareness has always been a part of my life, and I want to contribute to the betterment of society without negatively impacting the environment. I was born to bring innovation to society, and my goal in life is to contribute to it in some meaningful way.

As a current graduate student and researcher focused on machine learning applications in fuel cells and electrolyzers, I am deeply committed to using technology to solve complex problems. My academic and recreational projects are where I strive to apply my knowledge.

Work Experience

  • Student Union DADJ

    Representative of Mechanical Engineering Students

    -

As a representative of the mechanical engineering students, I helped give voice to the students during the college's meetings. I consistently defended their perspectives and ensured their rights were respected.

  • Student Union DADJ

    Financial Administration Manager

    -

As a financial manager, I improved my teamwork skills, learned to organize and control all monetary flow in a small company, distributed the money raised in events, and budgeted for products. I also had the opportunity to create and maintain their website, which was my first experience with web development..

  • Universidade Federal Fluminense, Volta Redonda, RJ

    Tutoring

    -

As a tutor of fluid mechanics, I gained a thorough understanding of the subject matter while having the opportunity to work on my teaching and communication skills. I had to organize and prepare materials and sessions in advance to understand and address the emotional and academic needs of students. Working as a tutor also helped me create positive and trustful relationships with students.

  • Universidade Federal Fluminense, Volta Redonda, RJ

    Supervised Internship in Mechanical Engineering

    -

Reported, researched, and gathered data for a rocket project. I helped to restart a rocket project which is part of the Fluid Mechanics course, after had been interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic. I wrote a step-by-step report with instructions on how to build rockets and recorded tutorial videos explaining how to use and navigate through the software that creates rocket models.

    Financial Director

    -

As a director, I led a team of six members. This experience helped me develop unique skills that I didn't need to focus on as a manager, such as leadership, time management, confidence, public speaking, problem-solving, adaptability, and decision-making. I continued working with the team for four months after my graduation. Due to a reduced number of members for the spring term, they needed more people, and I thought that the most honorable attitude would be to keep working with them until the next tryout, when new members would join the team. I also had to pass on everything I had learned to the future director, which allowed me to work on my teaching skills as well. Working as a Financial Director at DADJ was definitely the most enriching experience during my undergraduate years because it helped me develop skills that I never thought I could be good at, such as public speaking. During my English studies at the Intensive English Institute at FAU, I was awarded second place in the International Speech Competition, which is something I never thought I could achieve before working at DADJ.

What happened to the study of physics?
Written on 14 April 2024

I am writing about not only the decline of physics but the decline in overall quality and quantity of research. It seems like no undergraduate students are interested in pursuing graduate degrees.
